The Idea Behind Hello Guest Screen
Built from the experience of being a guest and a host
Crystal Shell has been hosting guests in her personal home and rental properties for years. The details she noticed — the ones that made guests feel genuinely welcomed rather than just accommodated — were always the small, unexpected touches. A guest’s name on a display. Amenities that anticipated the purpose of the visit. Information that answered the question before it was asked.
She also remembered staying at hotels and resorts as a child and seeing her family name displayed on the TV in the room. That moment of recognition — someone had prepared for their arrival, someone knew they were coming — stayed with her. It was the feeling she wanted every guest in her properties to have.
The problem was that nothing on the market made it simple. Getting a guest’s name on a TV required expensive custom hardware, a developer, or a system too complex for a host managing one or two properties. Hello Guest Screen was built to solve all of this in one place — a display that pulls the guest’s name from their booking automatically, shows the WiFi, the checkout time, the weather, and a QR code, all from a setup that takes under 10 minutes and requires no technical knowledge.

Having encountered scenarios where obtaining Wi-Fi passwords involved unconventional searches like finding the modem and taking a picture of the label, sending hosts a message and waiting a while to receive it, and reaching out to hosts for local recommendations, I aimed to simplify the guest experience. The outcome is a seamlessly integrated display that welcomes guests by name and occasion as soon as they power on the TV. Its complete automation makes it truly special — no need for guests to download any apps. Once set up, it is a one-time effort that enhances the overall experience.
