Why Roku Is a Popular Choice for Airbnb Welcome Screens

Roku is one of the most widely used streaming platforms in the United States, with over 80 million active accounts. Many vacation rental properties already have a Roku device or Roku Smart TV — which means hosts can set up Hello Guest Screen without buying any additional hardware.

Why Roku works great

Roku devices are straightforward to use, have a simple remote, and the Roku Channel Store makes app installation easy. Unlike smart TV operating systems that vary by brand and model, Roku works consistently across all supported devices and never requires software updates from the host.

Roku vs Firestick

Which should you choose?

Both work equally well with Hello Guest Screen. Choose Roku if your property already has a Roku device or a Roku Smart TV — no extra hardware needed.

Choose Firestick if your TV has an HDMI port and you want a low-cost device (under $25) that works on any TV regardless of brand. You can also use both — one per property based on what is already there.

Setup Guide

How to Set Up Hello Guest Screen on Roku

Setup takes under 10 minutes from start to finish. You do not need any technical knowledge or developer help.

1

Connect Your Roku Device to the TV

If you are using a Roku streaming stick, plug it into the HDMI port on your TV and connect the USB power cable to the TV or a wall adapter. If you have a Roku Smart TV, it is already built in — just turn it on. Switch the TV input to the correct HDMI source if using a streaming stick.

2

Connect Roku to Your Property WiFi

On the Roku home screen, go to Settings → Network → Set Up Connection. Select your property WiFi network and enter the password. Use your host WiFi during setup — not the guest network. The Roku needs a stable connection to pull reservation data automatically.

3

Open the Roku Channel Store and Search for Hello Guest Screen

From the Roku home screen, go to Streaming Channels (or Channels), then Search Channels. Type Hello Guest Screen and select it from the results. Click Add Channel and confirm. The app installs in a few seconds and appears on your Roku home screen.

4

Sign In to Your Hello Guest Screen Account

Open Hello Guest Screen from your Roku home screen and sign in with your email and password. If you do not have an account yet, sign up free at helloguestscreen.com — no credit card required to start your trial.

5

Connect Your Booking Calendar

In your Hello Guest Screen dashboard, go to Settings and connect your booking platform. HGS integrates directly with Airbnb, VRBO, Guesty, Hostfully, OwnerRez, Booking.com, and any platform with an iCal export link. Once connected, guest names, check-in dates, and check-out dates sync automatically.

6

Customize Your Welcome Screen

Add your property name, WiFi network name and password, check-out time, logo or host photo, and a personalized welcome message. Optionally add a background image, a YouTube video link for ambient content, and a QR code linking to house rules, local recommendations, or your direct booking page. Preview the screen before saving.

7

Set Hello Guest Screen to Launch Automatically on Startup

On Roku, go to Settings → System → Power → Power On. Set the startup channel to Hello Guest Screen. Every time your guest turns on the TV, the welcome screen appears immediately — without the guest needing to navigate the Roku home screen. This is a one-time setting.

TCL / Hisense / Sharp Tip

Roku Smart TVs (TCL, Hisense, Sharp): If your property has a TCL, Hisense, or Sharp TV with Roku built in, you do not need a separate Roku device. Install Hello Guest Screen directly from the Roku Channel Store on the TV itself. Set it as the default startup channel and it will launch automatically when guests power on the TV.

What Guests See on the Roku Welcome Screen

When your guest turns on the TV, a full-screen personalized display appears. Everything on the screen is pulled automatically from your booking calendar and your custom settings.

★ Guest Name Display

Automatically shows the guest’s first name from your booking calendar. Updates with every new reservation — no manual changes between bookings.

★ WiFi Name and Password

Displays your network name and password clearly on screen. The single most appreciated feature — guests no longer ask the host for WiFi.

★ Check-Out Time

Shows the exact check-out time for the current reservation. Guests see it every time they turn on the TV, significantly reducing late check-outs.

★ Weather Display

Current weather and 5-day forecast for your property’s location, so guests can plan their day without asking or searching.

★ QR Code

A scannable code linking to any URL — house rules, local restaurants, your direct booking page, upsells, or activities.

★ Logo or Host Photo

Display your property brand or a host photo to build trust and encourage direct bookings for future stays.

★ Custom Background

Any image as the screen background to match your property style — beach, cabin, city skyline, minimalist white.

★ Video or Ambient Music

Paste a YouTube link to play a property walkthrough, fireplace video, or background music behind the welcome display.

★ Welcome Message

A personalized message that greets every guest on arrival. Can include the property name, special instructions, or a warm welcome note.

★ House Rules

Key house rules shown directly on the welcome screen so guests see them automatically on check-in without hunting for a binder.

Calendar Integration

Fully Automatic — Set It Up Once

Hello Guest Screen connects to your booking calendar so the screen updates automatically with every new guest. Set it up once and it runs itself. When a guest checks out and the next reservation begins, the screen automatically updates with the new guest’s name, check-in date, check-out time, and any custom details for that booking. No action required between guests.
